Glen Ridge CCC FAQs
Q: What is the CCC?
A: The Civic Conference Committee is comprised of a broad cross section of Glen Ridge citizens whose only function is to seek out and endorse those who in its collective judgment are the most qualified candidates for elected Borough office (Town Council, Mayor and School Board).
Q: Why does the CCC do what it does?
A: The Civic Conference Committee feels that by seeking out qualified candidates for office, there is less contention during elections. Individuals who would not otherwise have political aspirations are more likely to run for office if they know they will not have to run an expensive, arduous campaign. The CCC endorses candidates based on their general qualifications rather than their specific political positions; therefore a citizen can vote the CCC slate regardless of their political affiliation.
Q: Can an individual run independently for office?
A: Yes, absolutely! If an individual chooses to run for office who has not been endorsed by the CCC, we welcome their candidacy and that person can obtain petition information from the Borough and Board of Ed Administrative offices.
Q: What is the make-up of the CCC?
A: The CCC may be comprised of 6 delegates each from its member organizations (i.e. Historical Society, Women’s Club, Friends of the Library, etc) and currently has 12 at-large delegates.
Q: How often does the CCC meet?
A: There are 10 monthly meetings each year, normally on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
Q: Are meetings open to the public?
A: Almost all meetings are open, with the exception of the candidate selection meeting. This meeting is help private to protect the confidentiality of those whose names are being considered.
Q: Do candidates owe the CCC any allegiance?
A: No! The CCC is a non-partisan group, and has no policies or positions for a candidate to support.
Q: Do delegates to the CCC represent their organization?
A: Delegates come to the CCC as independent individuals, who vote as they see fit. Their vote is not dictated by the organization from which they come.
Q: Why does the CCC solicit its members from town organizations?
A: The diversity of Glen Ridge organizations provides the CCC with the greatest possible variety in its own make-up.
Q: Is the CCC looking for new members?
A: We are always looking for Glen Ridge citizens to join the CCC and we encourage anyone to become a part of the process.
